USA Central Territory Dedicates New Headquarters to Service and Glory of God
“All work set apart for the service and glory of God is holy work.”

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (Jan. 24, 2016)—In culmination of a process that began more than five years ago, The Salvation Army USA Central Territory today dedicated its new Territorial Headquarters for 11 Midwestern US States to the service and glory of God.

The open house and dedication began with tours of the newly redesigned building. Many Soldiers and Officers from “Chicagoland” area corps came in uniform after morning services.

Just before 3:00 PM, the atrium of the building reverberated in fanfare. “O Boundless Salvation,” sounded from the balcony by the Chicago Staff Band Cornet section, calling all to the chapel for the dedication service.

Commissioner Paul R. Seiler, Territorial Commander, opened the service, saying “Friends, the Army has come to town!” Seiler then welcomed and thanked many who took part in the design and refitting of the building. Including THQ employees and officers, architects from the firm of Wright-Heerema, and the contractor, ICG Construction, among others.

Also welcomed were dignitaries from the offices of US Congressional Representative, Tammy Duckworth, the local government of nearby Elgin, Illinois, and William Mc Cleod, Mayor of the Village of Hoffman Estates accompanied by Village Trustees.

In his community greeting, Mayor Mc Cleod said he was “proud to have the headquarters of The Salvation Army, who serves anyone in need, and does the Lord’s work, relocate to Hoffman Estates.” Mc Cleod continued, “There is hardly an American alive whose family or friends’ lives haven’t been touched in some way by the work of The Salvation Army in the past century.”

In his dedicatory address, National Commander David Jeffrey stated that, “while the new THQ facility is beautiful and wonderfully designed, it is surrounded by buildings that had those same characteristics.” Jeffrey continued, saying “This facility is holy because it is dedicated—set apart—to the service and glory of God. All the work that is done here, from sweeping the floors, to preparing meals, to managing finances, is holy, because that work is set apart for the service and glory of God.”

Formalizing the dedication, Commissioner Barbara Jeffrey, National President of Women’s Ministries, led the congregation in a dedicatory responsive reading. Commissioner Carol Seiler, Territorial Coordinator for Strategic Mission Planning, then directed the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, and led a congregational choral benediction, pronouncing the building “dedicated!”
