THE SALVATION ARMY KETTLES SIT $410,000 SHORT OF CHRISTMAS GOAL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
THE SALVATION ARMY KETTLES SIT $410,000 SHORT OF CHRISTMAS GOAL
With 72% of bell-ringing shifts going unfilled, the kettles are taking a hit.
MADISON, WI – December 7, 2018
With 14 ringing days left in the campaign, The Salvation Army of Dane County’s $410,000 shortage- and recovering from it- has become the organization’s main priority.
The Kettle Campaign supports individualized case management, the Single Women’s and Emergency Family Shelters, seven housing programs including DAWNS and Rapid Rehousing, children’s programming at the Community Center, and more. Should the campaign not meet its Christmas goal, The Salvation Army will have to reconsider how its resources are allocated throughout the year.
“With the number of Emergency Disaster Services calls we’ve had this year on top of maintaining our housing programs and services, this year’s kettle campaign is vital to our bottom line,” says Steve Heck, Director of Operations. He continues, “It’s not that people aren’t generous in this community. If someone is there ringing, people will give. With 72 locations across Dane County, there is a good chance there’s a kettle stand within blocks of your home.”
Heck hopes the three remaining Saturday Match Days will help make up for the decrease in volunteer hours. On these days, donations to the kettle are matched by local philanthropic organizations: Dec. 8th by Associated Bank; Dec. 15th by McFarland State Bank; and Dec. 22nd by National Guardian Life.
For the approximately $120 earned from a 2-hour shift, a family experiencing homelessness can be provided with three nights of food and shelter. The Red Kettle Campaign ends on Christmas Eve, but there are many ways to help.
