FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Salvation Army Officers to be Transferred

Janesville, Wisconsin, May 10 , 2018 - Majors Bob and Ruth Fay, leaders of The Salvation Army, in Janesville, are being transferred June 24 to The Salvation Army in Oak Creek.

The husband and wife team have held posts in The Salvation Army for 40 years from St. Louis and Kansas City in Missouri, to Detroit, St. Paul and Green Bay.

The new incoming officers are Capts. Steve and Telinda Wilson from Fond du Lac.

During the past eight years, the Fays have achieved major accomplishments, including:

  • Forming The Salvation Army of Rock County—a county-wide coordination of Salvation Army ministries and social services.
  • Meeting or surpassing the annual Christmas campaign goal all but one year. The campaign proceeds fund one-third of the annual operating budget.
  • Brought a new twist to the annual spring benefit that this year became the Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour. All proceeds benefitted ongoing programs and ministries.

Board Chairman Pete Schulz, Janesville, said the Fays will be missed.

“They have been a tremendous asset to the local Salvation Army. I hate to see them leave. They are a couple of tremendous faith. Oak Creek is getting a wonderful couple dedicated to carrying out the mission of The Salvation Army. We’re going to miss them,” he said.

The Fays are grateful for their time—twice the length of a typical Salvation Army assignment—spent in Janesville.

“I think Janesville gave more to the Fays than the Fays were able to give Janesville,” said Maj. Bob.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of the Janesville Salvation Army,” he said.

Maj. Ruth is proud the local Salvation Army has grown in its scope of services of helping people out of poverty in addition to meeting their spiritual and nutritional needs.

“I appreciate the volunteers who stepped up and continue to work in our kitchen and all the other volunteers and staff,” she said.

The new officers will arrive June 27 in Janesville. The public is invited to meet them during Welcome Sunday on July 1 when there will be an open house and ice cream social from noon to 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center, 514 Sutherland Ave.

The husband and wife team will tap into their years of experience with The Salvation Army that operates a variety of programs here, including: a weekday food pantry/bread room, a free community lunch Monday through Friday, a transitional housing program for families, seasonal assistance, youth programs and worship opportunities.
