‘Stories of Salvation’ to inform and recognize
LA CROSSE – The Salvation Army is holding a first-time event with the hopes of eliminating the stigma surrounding those that utilize services as well as honoring a supporter in the community.
‘Stories of Salvation’ will be held on Wednesday, May 15th from 11:45am-1pm at the Cargill Room in downtown La Crosse. The event will feature a Salvation Army program recipient who will share their story of struggles with addiction and homelessness as well as how they triumphed.
Dave Rogers and Edna Thurston of Dave’s Guitar Shop will also be in attendance to receive this year’s Community Red Shield Award. The award is given to an individual or group in the community that has made a lasting impact, both at The Salvation Army and throughout the region. This is the 11th annual presenting of the award. Previous recipients include: Ed and Miriam Tanke, Jean Gitz-Bassett, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, John and Linda Lyche, Pat and Joanne Smith, Dave and Barb Skogen, Don and LaVonne Zietlow, Don and Roxanne Weber, Brad and Lynn Sturm, and Rotary Lights.
“Dave and Edna have acted as a safety net for us during our school and Christmas programs for children. If not for their efforts, hundreds of kids would have not received brand new school clothing or Christmas presents,” said Nick Ragner of The Salvation Army. “We are blessed to have their support and are happy to recognize them with this year’s award.”
Tickets for the first-time luncheon are $25. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Salvation Army of La Crosse’s Emergency Shelter program where more than 600 men, women, and children are served every year.
Generous sponsors of the event include the Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern, J.F. Brennan Company, Logistics Health, Inc., Fowler & Hammer, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, and Great Lakes Cheese.
