Renovations coming to Emergency Shelter

LA CROSSE – The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter will be going through renovations to better security and increase family sleeping areas over the next few months.

Construction on the remodel will begin on Monday, January 14th.  The remodel will include adding a secure access entry to the Emergency Shelter, adding two additional family sleeping areas by diving current space, and adding security measures throughout the rest of the building including office space.

“This building was built in 1990 for services different than those nearly 30 years later,” said Major Jeff Richardson of The Salvation Army. “We want to make our building more safe and accommodating to those that come to us in their time of need. We believe this remodel will help us fill an immediate need and set us up for more work to come.”

In detail, the remodel will include:
·    Creating a new entry point for the Emergency Shelter where individuals will have to be approved before entering the building
·    Creating a new, safer office space for those working in shelter
·    Dividing two large family living spaces into four separate family living spaces to accommodate more families and alleviate wasted area
·    Adding bath tubs in family rooms to accommodate families with young children
·    Adding access points throughout the rest of the building to control public access to private spaces
·    Updating security cameras throughout building

Construction is expected to be finished in early April. No shelter residents will be displaced during construction.  The Salvation Army is accepting donations to help offset the cost of construction. For more information or to donate, please call The Salvation Army at (608)782-6126.
