National Salvation Army Week to Celebrate Local Programs, Services
May 12-18 The Salvation Army of Dane County to host weeklong celebration
MADISON, WI (May 13, 2019) – The Salvation Army of Dane County is observing National Salvation Army Week with a series of events and promotions that highlight its programs and services. Community members are invited to join in celebrating 129 years of Doing The Most Good.
The weeklong series began on Sunday, May 12, with an open welcome to attend worship services. The week continues with Open Gym on the nights of Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14 from 4-8 PM. Basketball and other various games are offered to the Darbo-Worthington Community for a safe space for kids to have fun.
On Thursday, May 16, The Salvation Army will host its annual Tin Cup Lunch at the Sheraton Hotel on John Nolen Drive. This vital fundraiser is a time for donors, volunteers, and supporters to witness the life-changing and inspirational work of the Army. Lunch is free to attend, though a financial ask will be made at the event.
Over the course of the week, The Salvation Army is hosting a Summer Shelter Supplies Drive for much-needed items as the weather warms. Such items include: Flop-flops/shower shoes, lip balm, travel-sized sunscreen, reusable water bottles, and sunglasses. Donations can be taken to the Community Center location at 3030 Darbo Drive in Madison.
Those interested in learning more about The Salvation Army of Dane County are invited to inquire about a tour of the facilities and an overview of the programs and services offered. As The Salvation Army heads into its 130 Anniversary Celebration in 2020, community members are encouraged to learn the history and roots of the organization in preparation for the grand plans of what’s to come.
