National Salvation Army Week in La Crosse 2020

 

LA CROSSE – A local non-profit organization is celebrating a special week in our community.

The Salvation Army of La Crosse County will celebrate the 66th annual National Salvation Army Week on May 11-17, 2020. The goal of National Salvation Army Week is to spotlight the organization’s long-standing history and year-round work in the community, honoring donors and volunteers across the nation who support their local Salvation Army.

“During these times of uncertainty, it’s important to reflect on the positive things,” says Major Jeff Richardson of The Salvation Army, “We are truly blessed to serve those in this giving community.”

The Salvation Army of La Crosse County will once again recognize National Salvation Army Week by highlighting a certain point of interest of their programs and services each day. Due to restrictions on gatherings during the Safer-At-Home order, these will be streamed live on The Salvation Army’s Facebook page. The schedule for daily events is as follows:

Monday (May 11th) – History of The Salvation Army

Major Jeff Richardson will share the official of The Salvation Army and the proclamation of TSA week, which was first declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954.

Tuesday (May 12th) – Donors & Volunteers

Truly the lifeblood of any non-profit organization: this day highlights the giving efforts of our volunteers & community donors; whose efforts allow The Salvation Army to continue to serve those in need. Julia McDermid of the Coulee Collaborative to End Homelessness will also be in attendance to highlight The Salvation Army’s efforts and contributions to the collaborative.

Wednesday (May 13th) – Emergency Shelter & Meal Service

Open to those in need: this day will highlight the Emergency Shelter & Meal Service programs, which are open to anyone in need. This will also feature The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Canteen, which has been utilized to deliver meals to the unsheltered population, along with hygiene products, blankets, and other items of need.

Thursday (May 14th) – Case Management Services

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Shelter is much more than a place to sleep overnight. This day will highlight our amazing Case Management team, who meet with residents Ready for Change and help them get back on their feet.

Friday (May 15th) – Thrift Store

This day highlights La Crosse’s oldest Thrift Store, located on the Northside of La Crosse. All proceeds from sales made at the store are immediately donated to support The Salvation Army’s programs year-round

Saturday (May 16th) – Live Music from Zoё

The Salvation Army of La Crosse County wraps up National Salvation Army Week in La Crosse with a live musical performance from Rock cover band Zoё, who will host a special Facebook Live concert on their page with all proceeds to benefit The Salvation Army!
