Local Salvation Army Officer to Sleep Outside for 5 Nights
to aid the hurting, homeless and hungry

SHEBOYGAN, WI (December 3, 2018) - Captain Daryl Mangeri will be FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON from Dec. 10 - 14 outside Festival Foods in Sheboygan.  He has committed to sleeping out in the cold for five frigid nights to raise awareness of and support for the hurting, hungry and homeless in our community.

"I’m advocating for those we serve that are currently homeless, those who are one paycheck away from becoming homeless, as well as those caught in a vicious cycle of generational poverty where the barriers involved to escape this dilemma are numerous and far reaching,” said Captain Daryl Mangeri. “These are the individuals we serve each and every day in our community. It takes time, effort, and intentional programming to change lives, often one at a time.”

Christmas is the most important fundraising season of the year for The Salvation Army, with the local goal increased to $611,000 this year. All funds collected during the Christmas campaign stay in the area to support vital social service programs such as a 45-bed homeless shelter, community food pantry, utility and work boot assistance, Christmas Toy Shoppe and Coats for Kids. Recently mental health and financial counseling services were added to the existing Red Shield Wellness Center offerings.

Captain Mangeri is personally willing to do whatever it takes to ensure the needs of the Sheboygan community continue to be met, including FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON. Show your support by visiting his makeshift camp at Festival Foods, 595 S. Taylor Drive in Sheboygan. To allow for rest, the community is encouraged to visit in the evenings from 6pm - 9pm starting Dec. 10, and in the morning from 6am - 8am starting Dec. 11.

Make a donation to the FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON campaign online at www.sasheboygan.org or by texting ‘FREEZIN’ to 41444.
