Behind the Shield, Captain Martin Theis, Officer
Captain Martin Thies was commissioned as an Officer for The Salvation Army 13 years ago.
He is currently located at the Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Divisional Headquarters as the Divisional Youth Secretary and Camp Administrator. In his role, Captain Martin is involved with facilitating the various large youth events throughout the division, notably Youth Councils. He also assists at the corps whenever they need youth programming oversight and direction. While Captain Martin is at camp, you could find him playing volleyball with young adults, teaching a class for young kids, filling up a camp van with gas for a trip, praying with a camper, discussing an issue with camp staff, working on a schedule for a different camp, or answering email in an office. He is also very active playing the Tuba and many other instruments in the Brass Band. Learn more about Captain Martin below.
Q. How did you first learn about The Salvation Army?
A. Local ad for a Sunday morning musician
Q. What made you want to become an Officer?
A. Nothing made me want to become an officer. God called me to do it, or I'd be doing something else.
Q. What is your favorite part about being an officer at TSA?
A. The diversity of my workday.
Q. What has been your favorite experience with TSA?
A. Watching people grow in Christ.
Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about TSA?
A. The world should know we are serious about living in holiness.
Q. What are three words you'd use to describe TSA?
A. Others, authentic and compassionate.
Q. Is there anything you'd like to add?
A. No, I don't like doing Math unless I need too.
