Behind the Shield: Angee Mayweather, The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County Chaplain

Mar 7, 2018

Angee Mayweather is a Chaplain for the The Salvation Army Chaplaincy Program in Milwaukee County. She started volunteering with the Salvation Army shortly after joining the Chaplaincy program in October 2017 and serves the northwest side of Milwaukee. Angee works with Milwaukee Police Department, District 7 assisting in Prayer Roll Call, praying for officers before the start of their shift. She also gets called upon by the MPD to provide spiritual/emotional support to families affected by violence and/or trauma.

Q. How did you first learn about The Salvation Army and the Chaplaincy Program?
A. I heard of The Salvation Army, growing up in Milwaukee; however, I did not know the extent of their service until becoming a Chaplain.  My cousin, who is an officer in Dist. 7, introduced me to some Salvation Army Chaplains at Sherman Park’s World Peace event.  The team of chaplains at the event was very welcoming, which lead me to hang around them most of the day.  Needless to say, it was not long before they put me to work!  This was my first time volunteering with The Salvation Army, seeing the canteen and helping some enthusiastic Chaplains serve at a community event.

Q. What is your favorite part about being involved with The Salvation Army (chaplaincy program)?
A. Serving others when called upon by The Salvation Army and the Chaplaincy program is what I enjoy most.

Q. What has been your favorite experience/event with The Salvation Army?
A. I cannot name one specific event as my favorite experience with The Salvation Army, because I have enjoyed all and leave each happier than I went.

Q. What is one thing you believe the world should know about The Salvation Army?
A. The Salvation Army works by faith to help those in need regardless of one’s ethnicity or religion.

Q. What are 3 words you would use to describe The Salvation Army?
A. People working together.

Q. What have you learned about yourself or the community from your volunteering with The Salvation Army (chaplaincy program)?
A. I have learned the true meaning of, “It is better to give than receive”.  Serving my community has helped me find another way to fulfill happiness.

Q. Where have you experienced God the most in your volunteering with The Salvation Army Chaplaincy Program?
A. I have experienced God at every event volunteering with The Salvation Army’s Chaplaincy program just by seeing a child's smile or the smile of an adult.

Q. Is there anything you’d like to add?
A. I am thankful to have been introduced to this program!
